In Roswell’s close-knit community, Nancy Cohen has found a creative way to bring people together through the timeless game of Mahjong. As the founder of Master the Mahj, Nancy offers fun, approachable lessons for small groups who want to learn and connect over one of the world’s most beloved games.

Sharing a Lifelong Passion
Nancy’s love for Mahjong began back in 2006, when she first learned how to play. Over the years, she taught friends and new players as her own group evolved, always finding joy in sharing the game with others. When she noticed how popular Mahjong had become in Roswell, she decided to turn her passion into something more.
“I wanted to share my love of the game with others,” Nancy explained in her written response. “It’s something that spreads happiness, friendship, and cheer to everyone who learns.”
A Personalized Approach
Unlike larger classes offered in restaurants or event spaces, Master the Mahj focuses on intimate group lessons of no more than eight people. Nancy travels to her clients’ chosen location, creating a relaxed, social learning environment. “The small group setting allows for a more one-on-one experience,” she wrote. “It’s more personal and ultimately more effective.”
That approach has quickly resonated with the Roswell community. In just over three months, Nancy has already taught more than 100 people how to play, an impressive start for a new local business built entirely on connection and word of mouth.
Balancing Family and Entrepreneurship
Nancy credits her family, especially her husband, for being her biggest supporters. “He’s been so helpful with the kids, dinner, and errands so that I can teach without worry,” she wrote. “He and the kids are proud of me, which means the world.”
Balancing lessons with family life has been her biggest challenge, but she’s learned the importance of pacing herself. “It’s okay not to double and triple book yourself in one day,” she shared.
Motherhood, she says, has also influenced her in a positive way. “I like setting the example for my kids,” she wrote. Her success shows them that following a passion can lead to something meaningful and fulfilling.

Finding Joy in Community
For Nancy, success isn’t measured in numbers. It’s in seeing her clients come together after lessons to keep playing and forming their own groups. “Seeing them share their love of the game with friends feels like success to me,” she shared.
She also speaks warmly about the Roswell community itself. “Roswell feels like a big family,” she wrote. “It’s such a supportive and welcoming place to build a small business.”
Play, Connect, and Master the Mahj
Through her approachable teaching style and genuine enthusiasm, Nancy has made Mahjong more than a game. It’s a way to connect, relax, and share laughter. Each lesson is a reminder that learning something new can be just as rewarding as the friendships built along the way.
Whether you’re brand new to the tiles or looking to sharpen your skills, Master the Mahj offers the perfect blend of fun, community, and connection.
