FAQ

What is Small Biz OBM?

Small Biz OBM works directly alongside founders to bring structure and scalability to growing businesses.

Most early-stage companies reach a point where revenue has grown, but the structure of the business hasn’t caught up yet. Small Biz OBM steps in to help design and implement the practical tools and frameworks needed to support that growth.

This can include things like:

• updating or rebuilding a website

• brand kits + social media content
• organizing a CRM and lead tracking system
• building client onboarding and email automation flows

• setting up your Chart of Accounts and automating bookkeeping
• implementing AI tools to reduce repetitive work
• setting up project management tools for teams
• building dashboards that track revenue, expenses, and performance
• profitability and break-even analysis
• structuring pricing and profit margins

The goal is to help founders design a business that is both profitable today and scalable for the future.

Many founders think of Small Biz OBM as fractional COO and fractional CFO-level support in practical, bite-sized implementation designed specifically for small, founder-led businesses.

Why would a founder hire Small Biz OBM?

Many founders are focused on growing the business, but the structure behind the business hasn’t evolved at the same pace.

Revenue may be increasing, clients may be coming in, but pricing, tools, workflows, and financial visibility are still operating the way they did when the business first started.

Hiring full-time leadership at this stage often isn’t realistic yet.

Small Biz OBM helps bridge that gap by bringing structure and scalability to the business so the founder can focus on growth instead of constantly putting out fires.

Who do you typically work with?

Small Biz OBM works with founder-led businesses, usually with fewer than 10 employees.

Most clients are:

• service businesses
• online businesses and creators
• consultants and agencies
• local small businesses
• ecommerce brands

These are businesses where the founder is still heavily involved in day-to-day operations and needs help implementing the right structure and tools customized to their business.

Why do you only work with small businesses? Do I qualify?

We partner exclusively with small businesses, typically with fewer than 10 employees and a strong connection to their community.

Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, creating meaningful jobs, reinvesting locally, and bringing heart to the industries they serve. We choose to work with these businesses because they reflect values of creativity, resilience, and real impact - not just profit.

If that sounds like your business, you probably qualify.

What type of businesses do you work with?

We specialize in partnering with passionate founders across a variety of industries, including:

  • 🛍️ Ecommerce & DTC Brands

  • 💻 Tech Startups

  • 🏭 Manufacturing & Logistics

  • 🛎️ Hospitality

  • 🛒 Retail

  • 👗 Fashion & Apparel

  • 🧴 Skincare & Wellness

  • 🥫 Packaged Foods & Beverages

  • 🍷 Boutique Wineries & Wine Shops

Are there any industries you do not work with?

Yes.

Small Biz OBM does not provide services to legal or medical practices. These industries require specialized professional training and regulatory expertise.

Do you offer contracts and invoices?

Absolutely. Every engagement includes a clear service agreement and transparent invoicing. We believe clarity is key to a successful working relationship. Additionally, payment plans are available upon request.

How do you track hours?

For hourly and retainer work, we use  Toggl (a time-tracking system) that ensures accountability and gives you visibility into how time is being spent. You’ll always know what’s getting done and when.

How do we communicate during a project or retainer?

We adapt to your preferred tools (Slack, email, Asana, ClickUp, or others), always making sure communication is prompt, clear, and consistent. We also recommend weekly check-ins for ongoing work.

What's the difference between a traditional OBM and Small Biz OBM?

Traditional OBMs often work within larger organizations and focus on managing a specific department or operational area.

Small Biz OBM works directly alongside founders of smaller businesses where departments and full leadership teams don’t exist yet.

The role often involves duplicating the entrepreneurial skill set needed to run a business, drawing from experience in consulting and fractional COO/CFO work within growing companies.

Instead of managing a department, Small Biz OBM helps founders design the structure the business needs to grow into its next stage.

What if my company isn't fully remote?

That’s completely fine.

Small Biz OBM works with businesses regardless of whether they operate remotely, hybrid, or in-person.

Most work can be done remotely, and on-site engagements may be available on a limited basis in Georgia.

What’s the difference between an OBM and a VA (Virtual Assistant)?

A Virtual Assistant typically focuses on individual tasks such as inbox management, scheduling, or administrative work.

An OBM focuses on helping the founder organize the systems, tools, and workflows that keep the business running smoothly.

While a VA executes tasks, an OBM helps ensure the structure behind the business actually works.
